The purpose of running the CARP Net in Simplex mode is to encourage ham radio operators to be able to switch their radios into using Simplex mode when needed.  If the CARP repeater were to go down, we could still communicate radio to radio without the use of the repeater.  In an emergency, this would be a very valuable skill.

It may be that you might program a secondary channel to use Simplex mode when needed, or you might just reprogram your radio on the fly as needed.  What ever method works best for you is the way to go.
