There were four teams that started out from Letterman Park when the transmitter was turned on. Copy was rough and the only way I heard it was from my mobile radio. Nobody using the handheld beams could hear it. The hunters consisted of Guy, KN6WET, Mike, KG6MSV, and son; Ken, WA6OIB with Eli; and myself, WA6BJY.

This was a mileage hunt with the transmitter located in the SE corner of Furlong Field (otherwise known as Basin AH1 Dog Park) on West Alamos Ave south of West Shaw Ave. and east of Golden State Blvd. Because everybody was having trouble hearing the T at the beginning, Harvey put out a hint to “go west.”

Guy had to drop out of the hunt. Mike found the transmitter first but his milage was high due to a detour he took. Ken and Eli came in with a milage of 13.7 and I came in with 11.5 miles. It was mentioned that on some hunts, the second place hunter should hide the next hunt just to eliminate sandbagging. It is more fun to hunt than hide (unless you can observe the hunters getting frustrated).

Harvey placed the transmitter which was running about two watts behind a tree with the J-pole antenna on a pole along the fence line with the antenna behind a tree, making it not visible from the street.

Rob, AE6GE, has volunteered to hide the transmitter for the next hunt which will be held on December 14th.
