About this event

We are pleased to announce that the Clovis Amateur Radio Pioneers will be touring the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in Avila Beach, California on Friday, April 17.

This event is open to all Clovis Amateur Radio Pioneers members. Space is limited, and attendance will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Diablo Canyon is California’s largest source of clean energy. The plant generates enough electricity to power approximately 4 million Californians. This interactive, guided tour is designed to educate the public about nuclear energy and provide a firsthand look at the facility.

The tour is approximately 3 hours in length.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tours include ascending multiple flights of stairs and approximately 1.5 miles of walking. Participants should be prepared for extended periods of standing and walking.

TRANSPORTATION:

Transportation will be coordinated by private members. Carpooling will be arranged, and large passenger vans will be rented as needed based on attendance.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS:

• All participants must bring a valid photo ID on the day of the tour. Entry will not be permitted without proper identification.
• A background check is required for all visitors.

HOW TO SIGN UP:

1. Sign up at k6arp.org.
2. After registering, you will receive a link to an online background check form.
3. Complete and submit the form as instructed.

Your spot is not confirmed until the background check form has been submitted and approved.

During this visit, you will:

• Learn how Diablo Canyon Power Plant generates clean, safe, and reliable energy.
• Discuss Diablo Canyon’s vital role in supporting California’s transition to a decarbonized, climate-resilient future.
• Enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the facility and learn about stewardship of the surrounding lands.

The tour includes visits to:

• Fire Station
• Marina Intake Cove
• Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI)
• 230/500 kV Switchyards
• Reservoir Pools
• Desalination Plant

Additional details regarding departure times, meeting location, and transportation logistics will be provided prior to the tour date.

We encourage members to register promptly due to limited capacity.
